Freshman forward Aymanni Wynn put Union on the board first with a tip-in off an offensive rebound. The early game continued as a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading baskets, highlighted by scoring from Noe to keep the Bulldogs close.

After a Truett McConnell layup gave the Bears a 13-10 lead at the 2:12 mark, free throws from sophomore point guard Emrey Glover and Coffey pulled Union even. Rodgers then closed the quarter at the line, giving the Bulldogs a 15-14 lead at the break.

Noe opened the quarter with a layup to extend the lead before Truett McConnell answered to tie the score at 17-17 with 8:10 remaining. Coffey made two free throws to put the Bulldogs back in front, and Union held the lead for the remainder of the quarter. Despite a late free throw by the Bears, Union entered halftime ahead 24-23.

Third Quarter: Union Commonwealth 40, Truett McConnell 34

Union started the quarter slow as the Bears used a quick 9-2 run to take control, forcing the Bulldogs to play catch-up at the 7:01 mark. After a Union timeout, the Bulldogs answered with a run of their own. Coffey sparked the surge with back-to-back layups, and Wynn followed with a 3-pointer to put Union back in front, 33-32, midway through the quarter.

The Bulldogs held the lead the rest of the period, and a late Coffey free throw sent Union into the final break ahead 40-34.
