BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union Commonwealth University's men's soccer team (8-2-3, 7-0-2 AAC) defeated Reinhardt (3-7-2, 3-5-1 AAC) Saturday night at Williamson Stadium, 2-1.
Game Recap
First Half: UNION COMMONWEALTH 1,REINHARDT 1
In the 35th minute, Reinhardt broke the deadlock with a solo effort from Luke McLaren, putting the Eagles ahead 1-0. Union answered just before halftime, when Oriol Gásquez Pérez curled in a free kick from outside the box to notch his third goal of the season and level the score.
The Bulldogs controlled much of the first half, maintaining possession and outshooting the Eagles 15-5. Gabriel Mendoza anchored the defense with three key saves to keep Union even heading into the break.
Second Half: UNION COMMONWEALTH 2, REINHARDT 1
The Bulldog backline held firm throughout the second half, keeping Reinhardt's attack in check. In the 53rd minute, Union broke through as Eduardo Ribeiro netted the eventual game-winner off a setup from Oriol Gásquez Pérez.
Union controlled the tempo offensively, outshooting Reinhardt 25-11, with both teams placing seven shots on target. Pérez, Jordan Blake, and Ron-Jay Watson led the Bulldogs with four shots apiece.
Goalkeeper Gabriel Mendoza turned in a solid performance between the posts, recording six saves in the victory.
