BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University men's basketball team (12–14, 10–7 AAC) earned an 80–69 victory over Johnson (13–13, 12–6 AAC) on Monday night at Robsion Arena.
The win completed the season sweep for the Bulldogs, who previously edged Johnson 80–77 on the road earlier this year. The victory also extended Union Commonwealth's winning streak to three games for the second time this season.
Kaleb Hedgepeth led the Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting performance. Jabari Covington added 16 points, while Dallas Rufus finished with 13. Ali Sakho rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half: Union Commonwealth 36, Johnson 28
Johnson opened the game with a quick 9-0 run, but Union responded with a 9-1 surge of its own, capped by a Hedgepeth three-pointer to take a 10-9 lead. With 8:03 remaining in the half, the Bulldogs evened the score at 18-18 before pulling away on a 14-4 run to go up 32-22. The teams traded baskets down the stretch, with Union carrying a 36-28 lead into halftime.
Second Half: Union Commonwealth 80, Johnson 69
Union gradually extended its advantage throughout the opening 10 minutes of the second half, pushing the lead to 15 following a Sakho basket to make it 57-42. The Bulldogs maintained control the rest of the way, holding off the Royals to secure the 80-69 win.
