Campbellsville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team played at Campbellsville on Wednesday in a two-game series. The Bulldogs fell in each matchup.
Game One:
Union fell 20-4 in five innings. Megan Merritt led UCU in both hits and runs scored with two of each.
UCU scored two runs in the third inning as an RBI fly out by Shaylin Lewis allowed Ashleigh McLeskey to score on the throw, while Merritt scored on the following at bat off an RBI single by Tori Turner.
In the fifth inning, a SAC RBI ground out by Turner scored Merritt. On the following at bat, an RBI single by Jeweleyette Lilley scored Kaley Harris. Lilley and Katie Fister each pitched in the matchup for UCU.
Game Two:
The Bulldogs fell 13-3 in five innings. As she did in the opening matchup, Merritt led UCU in both hits and runs scored with two of each.
UCU registered two runs in the top of the first inning as Merritt scored off an RBI double by Harris, while Harris scored later in the side off an RBI ground out by Kinsley Redmon.
In the third inning, an RBI single by Redmon scored Merritt. Taylor Sain pitched the entire game for Union.
The Bulldogs are now 8-26 this season, while Campbellsville is 23-11. Up next for UCU is a home conference doubleheader against Bryan on Monday, April 21, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
