The Bulldogs fall short in doubleheader at Truett McConnell

Cleveland, Ga. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team played at Truett McConnell on Saturday in a doubleheader. UCU fell short by one run in each game.

 

Game One:

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Truett McConnell would go on to win the game 5-4 in seven innings.

Seven different Bulldogs combined to record Union's seven hits in the matchup. Ryleigh Petrey scored two runs, which was tied for the most by any player. Briley Robbins' two RBIs were tied for the most by any player in the matchup.

Carly Cain pitched the entire game for UCU. Cain allowed seven hits and four earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched.

 

Game Two:

Union scored three runs in the top of the fifth to tie game 3-3, but Truett McConnell would win 4-3 in seven innings. Petrey tallied two hits, which was tied for the most by any player in the game. Kinsley Redmon's two RBIs were the most by any player in the matchup.

Lily Marsh pitched the entire game for UCU. The freshman from Alcoa, Tenn., allowed just five hits and two earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched.

 

The Bulldogs are now 5-21 (3-13 AAC) this season, while Truett McConnell is 22-10 (13-5 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home conference doubleheader against Bryan on Tuesday, April 1, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
