UCU softball sweeps doubleheader against Pikeville

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team hosted Pikeville on Tuesday in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs won each game. UCU has won three consecutive games.

 

Game One:

Union won 11-3 in five innings. UCU registered 14 hits, while Pikeville tallied three. Megan Merritt led all players in hits with three. Tori Turner, Megan McGinley, Ryleigh Petrey, and Kinsley Redmon each registered two hits.

Union tallied a season-high eight doubles in the matchup, which included three by Merritt and two by Redmon. Prior to this game, four doubles was Union's season-high in that category.

Merritt registered a game-leading three RBIs, while Turner and McGinley each totaled two. Redmon led all players in runs scored with three, while Turner and Briley Robbins each accounted for two.

Carly Cain pitched the entire game for UCU. Cain allowed three hits and zero earned runs in 5.0 innings pitched.

 

Game Two:

UCU won 8-7 in seven innings. Each team registered 13 hits. Shaylin Lewis tallied three hits, which was tied for the most by any player in the matchup. Katie Fister and Kaliana Pangallo each recorded two hits.

Petrey and Lewis were two of three players to register a game-leading two runs. Redmon was one of three players to record two RBIs, which was tied for the most in the matchup.

Katie Fister was the winning pitcher. Fister registered three strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched. Lily Marsh earned a save, while totaling five strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. Marsh allowed one earned run.

 

The Bulldogs are now 5-11 (3-5 AAC) this season, while Pikeville is 10-9 (4-4 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home conference doubleheader against Montreat on Saturday, March 22, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
