BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University men's basketball team (5-8) defeated Alice Lloyd (4-11) Tuesday afternoon at Robison Arena, 90-80.
Redshirt junior Kaleb Hedgepeth led the way for the Bulldogs with a double-double, scoring 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting while grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.
Senior forward Dallas Rufus paced Union in scoring with 20 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field. Junior forward Devin Dunn also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while redshirt junior guard Drew Rhodes rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half: Union Commonwealth 36, Alice Lloyd 32
Alice Lloyd opened the game on a 12-4 run over the first four minutes. Union responded by cutting the deficit to one, 12-11, with 14:47 remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the period, with the Bulldogs taking a 36-32 lead into halftime.
Second Half: Union Commonwealth 90, Alice Lloyd 80
Union opened the second half with an 11-5 run, extending its lead to 47-37 with 17:30 to play. The Bulldogs gradually built their advantage, and with 3:42 remaining, Hedgepeth threw down a dunk over two defenders to give Union its largest lead of the game at 14 points, 77-63. Despite a physical final stretch marked by frequent fouls, the Bulldogs closed out the contest to secure the 90-80 victory.
