2024 Union women’s cross country season preview
Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University women's cross country team begins its 2024 season on Saturday in the Mike and Mary Kay Johnson Classic.
To preview the upcoming season, here is a Q&A session with head coach Chris Jelks.
1. What are your expectations for this season?
With six newcomers to XC, we are taking an expect any and everything approach. Practices are looking good, and the ladies are eager for the season to begin.
2. What goals have you set for your team?
Our goals are to learn from each meet and by conference be one of the top nine teams in the conference.
3. What strengths do you see in your team this year?
Like the men's team, youth is a big factor. We have one senior and one sophomore. Everyone else are freshmen.
4. Which returning players are you most excited about?
Kaylee Mills is shaping up to be a strong runner. Erin Pease isn't afraid to try any sport or any event. Melanie Partin jumped in with both feet as she is my senior.
5. What are your thoughts on the upcoming season?
Overall, we will do well, I'm excited.
