Union Women Make Their Mark Across Events at Pioneer Invite
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Union Commonwealth University women's track and field team put together a competitive showing at the Pioneer Invite, with several Bulldogs landing top finishes and building momentum across multiple events.
Sprints
Kaidence Key led Union in the 100 meters, out of 21 total competitors, with a fourth-place finish in 13.06 seconds, while Kaelyn Halmon followed in eighth at 13.32. Latalyah Sloan also cracked the top 10, taking 10th in 13.38.
In the 200 meters, Halmon turned in a strong performance, competing against a field of 24 competitors, placing fourth in 26.82. Key added a seventh-place finish in 27.19, while Sloan came through in ninth at 27.89.
Union saw another solid effort in the 400 meters, where Bella Townsend led the way with a fifth-place finish in 1:08.33.
Distance
Andrea Smith paced the Bulldogs in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 5:35.53.
Jumps & Hurdles
Ava Arnett highlighted the hurdles group with gold in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing in 1:15.56. She also added a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (18.83). Jazelynn Doneghy and Lydia Workman followed in fourth and fifth in the 100 hurdles, posting a time of 19.44 and 19.54.
Jazelynn Doneghy delivered a first-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 8.69 meters.
Relays
The 4x100 relay team of Latalyah Sloan, Kaelyn Halmon, Kaidence Key and Paula Sanchez Schultz placed third with a time of 53.29.
Throws
Abigail Bradley represented Union in the throws, finsihing in the middle of the pack in the shot put (10.01 meters) and in the hammer throw (32.65 meters). She also marked 25.32 meters in the discus.
