ATHENS, Tenn. - Union Commonwealth University's women's soccer team (2-12-0, 2-8-0 AAC) fell to Tennessee Wesleyan (8-2, 7-2 AAC) Wednesday at TWU Athletic Complex, 7-2.
Game Recap
First Half: UNION COMMONWEALTH 1, TENNESSEE WESLEYAN 4
In the 19th minute, Tennessee Wesleyan broke through and quickly took control, scoring three goals in a four-minute span to grab a 3-0 advantage.
Union responded soon after. In the 22nd minute, Charlotte Jensen found the back of the net to put the Bulldogs on the board, trimming the deficit to 3-1. The goal marked Jensen's second of the season
In the 41st minute, Tennessee Wesleyan's Valerie Koopman converted a penalty kick to extend the lead to 4-1.
Union managed just one shot in the first half, while goalkeeper Chiara Isanto recorded two saves to keep the Bulldogs within reach heading into halftime.
Second Half: UNION COMMONWEALTH 2, TENNESSEE WESLEYAN 7
In the 59th minute, Tennessee Wesleyan extended its lead as Addison Smith found the back of the net. Just minutes later, Smith struck again, this time off an assist from Iara Tello to make it 6-1.
Union answered in the 70th minute when Nomie Jerinic scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, assisted by Olivia Bartlett.
In the 86th minute, Lisa Kirwan added Tennessee Wesleyan's seventh goal to seal the match.
Union finished with five shots, including four on target. Goalkeeper Isanto tallied eight saves in the contest. Jerinic led the Bulldogs with four shots, while Jensen added one.
