Union falls short in conference play at Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Union Commonwealth University's women's soccer team (0-10-0, 0-6-0 AAC) fell to Columbia (4-2-3, 1-2-2 AAC) 3-1 on Sunday at Younts Stadium.

GAME RECAP

FIRST HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 0, COLUMBIA 2

Columbia's Kaky Sears broke through in the 25th minute with the opening goal of the match. Ten minutes later, Sears struck again with her second unassisted goal to extend the Koalas' lead. Union managed six shots in the first half.

SECOND HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 1, COLUMBIA 3

In the 60th minute, Olivia Bartlett netted her first goal of the season to put Union on the board. Columbia responded quickly as Malia Kincaid added a solo goal to push the Koalas' lead back to three.

Union outshot Columbia 13-11, with the Bulldogs placing seven shots on frame compared to Columbia's eight. Lupita Jimenez led the attack with five shots, while Bartlett, Nomie Jerinic and Beth Craig each tallied two. Naomi Waldrop and Kimel Robertson added one apiece. In goal, Arianna Brenes finished with five saves.
