PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's women's soccer team (0-9-0, 0-5-0 AAC) fell to Pikeville(6-0-2, 4-0-1 AAC) 5-2 Wednesday evening at Bob Amos Complex.
GAME RECAP
FIRST HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 1, PIKEVILLE 2
Early in the first half, Pikeville struck first as Sara Ritter found the back of the net on a solo effort. Just minutes later, teammate Jayla Boyd doubled the Bears' advantage with another unassisted goal.
Union responded in the 38th minute when Dionte Delpeche scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Olivia Bartlett, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Bulldogs managed four shots in the opening half.
SECOND HALF: UNION COMMONWEALTH 2, PIKEVILLE 5
Early in the second half, Iyana Campbell netted her first goal of the season on an unassisted strike to level the match at 2-2. Pikeville quickly regained the lead, however, as Charlene Lofqvist scored off assists from Sara Ritter and Jayla Boyd.
Less than a minute later, Lofqvist struck again with a finish set up by Boyd. She completed her hat trick in the 78th minute, converting on an assist from Jacquelyn Reding to seal the Bears' victory.
Union finished with 11 shots, including six on frame. Campbell and Lupita Jimenez paced the Bulldogs with three shots each, while Delpeche added two. Ashleigh Scott-Brown, Kimel Robertson and Charlotte Jensen each registered one shot.
Goalkeeper Arianna Brenes tallied eight saves in the match.
