BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University women's soccer team (0-4-0) fell 5-0 to Shawnee State (1-2-0) on Wednesday night at the Shawnee Sports Complex.
Game Recap
First half: Shawnee State 4, Union 0
Shawnee State forward Haynna Addy scored twice in under two minutes, finding the back of the net in the 8th and 9th minutes to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. The match was then suspended around the 10th minute due to lightning.
After play resumed, Shawnee State extended its lead in the 26th minute with a goal from midfielder Annie Coriell. In the 36th minute, Union defender Charlotte Jenson received a yellow card, setting up another scoring opportunity. Shawnee State capitalized as midfielder Anna Sas added a fourth goal.
Second half: Shawnee State 5, Union 0
Union looked to mount a comeback in the second half, but Shawnee State struck again in the 52nd minute with a goal by forward Lucia Ashkettle, pushing the score to 5-0. The Bears maintained that margin through the final whistle.
Up next: The Bulldogs return home to face Montreat on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m. in Williamson Stadium.
