BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth women's soccer team (0-1-0) fell 4-0 to No. 19 Cumberland (Tenn.) (1-0-0) in their season opener at Williamson Stadium.
The Bulldogs have only played the Phoenix one time in their history on Aug. 28, 2022 where Union fell 1-0 to Cumberland (TN).
Recap
The Phoenix opened up the scoring in the 7' when Aoi Kanna kicked a shot from far away to score, giving them a 1-0 lead early.
Then, in the 17' minute, Cumberland extended their lead with a goal from Kadisha Martina bringing the lead to 2-0.
With only a few minutes remaining in the half, Union would give up a penalty in the box for a penalty shot. Seika Ikezoe would then put the penalty away into the bottom right corner of the goal, making the score 3-0 in the 43'.
Throughout the majority of the second half, the Bulldog's defense held strong, however, in the 87' Martina scored her a brace in the game and gave the Phoenix a 4-0 lead.
