Meece's Late Tally Earns Women's Soccer 2-2 Tie

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College women's soccer scored twice late in each half to earn a 2-2 tie with visiting Columbia International University (S.C.) on Saturday in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.

With the tie, Union's overall record now sits at 4-9-1 while its conference mark goes to 3-6-1. Columbia International is now 7-4-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the AAC.

Knotted at 2-all, both teams had several chances during the extended periods to net the game-winner. Both goalkeepers made two saves in the first overtime period with the Rams' Sam Wammock tacking on two more in the second overtime. Union's Victoria Carta (FR/Queensland, Australia) made one save during the final 10-minute period.

The Bulldogs maintained heavy pressure during the second overtime, constantly keeping the ball on their offensive side of the field. Yet, Wammock came up big with saves on shots from Teresa Brown (SR/Montego Bay, Jamaica) and Maria Nylund (FR/Louisville, Ky.). In the 108th minute, Madison Meyer (SR/Taylor Mill, Ky.) sent a free kick high over the crossbar.

Columbia International had the last great scoring chances as McKenzie Miller fired a shot from the left side, but a Union defender saved it. The Rams got a corner kick in the waning moments of the game but were unable to get a shot on frame as time expired, confirming the 2-2 tie.

Down 2-1, Kristin Meece (SR/Waynesburg, Ky.) came through with her third goal of the season in the 88th minute of the contest. The tally evened the ledger at 2-all and sent the game in overtime.
