Knoxville, Tenn. – The Union Commonwealth University women's basketball team played at Johnson on Saturday. The Bulldogs fell short 67-63 as Johnson stayed undefeated on the season.
Madison Brady recorded a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, which led all players in each category. Rachel Smith registered 14 points off 4-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Smith also tallied a team-leading four assists.
McKenzie Himes was one of three Bulldogs in double figures. Himes contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Ja'Naia Moran tallied eight points, while Emrey Glover contributed seven points and a game-tying four steals off the bench.
Claire Belcher and Lindsey Pirkle combined to record five points for UCU. Pirkle tallied two blocks, which was tied for the most by any player in the matchup.
Union was an impressive 13-of-14 at the free-throw line. Himes and Brady were the only Bulldogs to attempt free throws in the matchup.
The Bulldogs are now 2-4 (1-2 AAC) this season, while Johnson is 6-0 (4-0 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home conference game against Pikeville on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 5:30 p.m.
