No. 19 Bulldogs Sneak Past Alice Lloyd, 64-61

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – Union College forward Lydia Nash (SR/Florence, Ky.) scored a team-high 17 points as the Bulldogs squeaked out a 64-61 win in the season opener versus Alice Lloyd College, Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs start off the season 1-0 and the Eagles fall to 1-2 with the loss.

Union struggled to get much offense going in the first half, heading into the locker room trailing Alice Lloyd, 34-33.

The second half saw the Eagles come out ready to play, while extending their lead to four points. Union battled back, taking a 47-46 lead in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs struggled from the free throw in the contest, but made timely free throws late in the fourth quarter as they collected a 64-61 win over Alice Lloyd.

Nash led the Bulldogs with 17 points and six rebounds, with five coming on the offensive glass. Reagan King (JR/Hindman, Ky.) joined Nash in double-figures, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Macy Clontz (SR/Lily, Ky.) followed with eight points, while Shelby Rudd (SO/Erlanger, Ky.) contributed seven points off the bench. In her first collegiate game, Cheyanne Stidham (FR/Whitesburg, Ky.) scored six points.

Union struggled from the field in their first game, shooting 31.7-percent from the field (19-60) and 25-percent from three-point land (3-12).

Defensively, the Bulldogs wreaked havoc on the Eagles, forcing 20 turnovers.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday as they host Midway College in the Union College Classic at 8 p.m. Union will take on Alice Lloyd again on Saturday as they conclude the classic with a 4 p.m. tipoff.
