Union Softball Falls to Alice Lloyd in Twinbill
PIPPA PASSES, Ky. — The Union Commonwealth University softball team (3-3) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Alice Lloyd College (5-5) on Tuesday afternoon at Reeve Softball Field, falling 7-6 in eight innings in Game 1 and 3-1 in Game 2.
Game 1: Alice Lloyd 7, Union Commonwealth 6 (8 innings)
In the third inning, the Bulldogs scored the first runs of the game, taking a 5-0 lead. Savanna Higgins, Emma Gochenour and Ryleigh Petrey each reached first and drove in a run, and Elizabeth Smith added a two-run double.
The Bulldogs extended the advantage to 6-0 in the fifth on a Victoria Rodriguez RBI single.
Union answered in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to cut the deficit to 6-3. After Alice Lloyd added a run in the sixth to make it 7-4, the Eagles continued to battle. Union scored on a steal of home in the seventh and later tied the game at 6-6 to force extra innings.
In the eighth, Alice Lloyd delivered an RBI single to score the go-ahead run from third and secure the 7-6 victory.

The Eagles struck first in the opening inning with a two-run double to take a 2-0 lead. Alice Lloyd responded in the third with a solo home run to extend the margin to 3-0.
Union got on the board in the fourth when Higgins hit a solo home run to trim the deficit to 3-1, but the Bulldogs were unable to rally the rest of the way.
