Union softball comes up short in doubleheader at Brenau

Gainesville, Ga. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team played at Brenau on Friday in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs fell short in each matchup.

 

Game One:

Union fell 11-10 in seven innings. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the fourth inning, while registering three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings respectively. UCU had two runners on base with no outs in the top of the seventh, but Union was unable to score off the opportunity.

Kinsley Redmon tallied three hits, which was tied with two others for the most in the matchup. Megan Merritt and Ryleigh Petrey each tallied two hits. Redmon and Petrey each connected on a home run in the fourth inning.

Petrey's homer was a three-run home run, while Redmon's was a solo homer. Petrey registered six RBIs in the matchup. Merritt, Petrey, and Shaylin Lewis each recorded a double in the game.

Katie Fister and Jeweleyette Lilley each pitched in the matchup for UCU. Fister allowed six earned runs in 4.0 innings pitched, while Lilley allowed four hits and two earned runs in 2.0 innings pitched.

 

Game Two:

UCU fell 8-3 in seven innings. Lewis registered three hits, which was tied for the most by any player in the matchup. Lewis tallied an RBI double in the sixth inning. Merritt, Redmon, Kaley Harris, and Kaylee Lawson each recorded a hit in the matchup.

Taylor Sain pitched the entire game for UCU. Sain allowed 11 hits and four earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched.

 

The Bulldogs are now 5-19 (3-11 AAC) this season, while Brenau is 24-7 (13-3 AAC). Up next for UCU is a road conference doubleheader against Truett McConnell on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
