Athens, Tenn. – The Union College softball team played at Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday in a doubleheader. Union fell short in both matchups.
Game One:
In the top of the third inning, Union's Shelby Easton registered a home run in the first at bat of the side. Later in the side, Leea Cole singled to center field. On the next at bat, Cole scored off an RBI triple by Sarah Lowe.
Union led 2-1 in the middle of the third inning. Tennessee Wesleyan countered by scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning in addition to scoring four runs in the fourth inning.
Tennessee Wesleyan won the matchup 10-2 in five innings. Leea Cole and Carly Cain each pitched in the game for Union.
Game Two:
Cole got on base in the first inning via a walk. Cole stole second base, but a swinging strikeout ended the side. Tennessee Wesleyan tallied three runs in the first inning, while adding to its lead in the second inning with nine additional runs.
Tennessee Wesleyan won the matchup 12-0 in five innings. Kerry Dixon, Katie Fister, and Jeweleyette Lilley each pitched for Union. Cole led Union in hits throughout the doubleheader with two in three at bats.
Union is now 3-7 (1-3 AAC) this season, while Tennessee Wesleyan is 7-4 (6-2 AAC). Up next for Union is a road conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 14, against Bryan. Those games are slated for 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
