The Bulldogs fall at No. 6 Cumberlands

Williamsburg, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team played at Cumberlands on Thursday. The Bulldogs fell short 9-0 in five innings.

With Union trailing 4-0 in the top of the second inning, the Bulldogs' Sarah Lowe tallied a single in the first at bat of the side. A ground out followed by a fly out advanced Lowe to third base, but a strikeout ended the top of the second.

The Patriots recorded two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Union's Kayla Keller recorded a single in the first at bat of the third inning. Keller would advance to third base as the side progressed, but Cumberlands prevented Keller from scoring.

With the score now 7-0, Union's Kinsley Redmon registered a single in the first at bat of the fourth inning. Kayla Richardson reached first base later in the side off an error with one out, but a strikeout and a pop up ended the top of the fourth. The Patriots tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Bulldogs put two runners on base in the top of the fifth inning, but Cumberlands won 9-0 in five innings. Union is now 9-14 this season, while the Patriots are 27-4.

Leea Cole, Carly Cain, and Kerry Dixon each pitched for the Bulldogs. Up next for Union is a road conference doubleheader against Pikeville on Wednesday, April 3, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
