The Bulldogs fall in doubleheader at Georgetown

Georgetown, Ky. – The Union Bulldogs fell short in Wednesday's doubleheader at Georgetown. The Bulldogs began the season with a doubleheader sweep over Georgetown, but Union was unable to replicate that series on Wednesday.

 

Game One:

With two outs in the top of the first inning, Union's Sarah Lowe hit a double to right field. On the next at bat, Taylor Whisonant registered an RBI single that scored Lowe. Union led 1-0 after the top of the first inning.

In the top of the second, Shelby Easton scored off an RBI single by Megan McGinley to give Union a 2-0 lead. Georgetown tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but the Bulldogs retook the lead in the top of the fourth as Kinsley Redmon scored off an RBI double by Easton.

Georgetown recorded three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bulldogs fell 5-3 in seven innings. Whisonant led all players in hits with three. Leea Cole and Carly Cain each pitched for Union. Cole was the starting pitcher.

 

Game Two:

On the opening at bat, Cole registered a single. On the ensuing at bat, Kaley Harris tallied a single. They each stole a base off a passed ball during the next at bat, but Georgetown would prevent any runs in the top of the first.

Georgetown tallied one run in the bottom of the first inning on its way to a 14-0 lead after four innings. In the top of the fifth, Union had two runners on base with no outs. Kayla Keller scored off an RBI single by Abby Gilbert.

On the next at bat, Tori Turner scored as Cole reached first on an error. Following a pop up for the first out of the side, a sacrifice fly RBI by Lowe scored Ryleigh Petrey. The Bulldogs fell 14-3 in five innings. Kerry Dixon and Jeweleyette Lilley each pitched in the matchup for Union.

 

The Bulldogs are now 8-10 this season, while Georgetown is 4-7. Up next for Union is a home conference series against Johnson.
