Union Men's Track Claims Multiple Event Wins, Finishes Second at Cumberlands Invite
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The Union Commonwealth University men's track and field team placed second out of 10 teams at the Cumberlands Early Spring Invite, finishing with 102 total points.
Sprints
Keith Hadley led Union in the 100 meters with a third-place finish in a field of 24 competitors, clocking 11.02 seconds. Collin Anderson finished seventh in 11.16, and Xavier Owens placed ninth in 11.23.
Hadley later finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 22.55, while Owens placed 11th in 23.36. In the 400 meters, Camahni John finished fifth in 51.29 and Isaiah Spears placed ninth with a time of 53.08.
Distance
Connor Messer represented the Bulldogs in the 800 meters, finishing 12th with a time of 2:06.51.
In the 5,000 meters, Jackson Crume finished ninth in 16:48.94 and Connor Partin followed in 10th place with a time of 16:55.39.
Jumps and Hurdles
Preston Frost captured first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.40.
Tyler Sturgill cleared 1.70 meters to place second in the high jump, while TJ Smith finished third with a mark of 1.65 meters.
In the pole vault, Valor Pennington finished fourth with a mark of 3.10 meters and Tim Freeman placed fifth after clearing 2.80 meters.
Nicholas Blann continued his dominant run in the jumps, winning the long jump with a mark of 6.86 meters in a field of 16 competitors. He returned in the triple jump and claimed another first-place finish with a mark of 14.28 meters. The two victories marked Blann's seventh podium finish of the season, continuing a standout year for the Bulldogs jumper.
Throws
Isaac Doneghy led Union in the shot put, finishing eighth with a throw of 11.69 meters.
William Sykes placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 35.15 meters. He later finished fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.40 meters and added a second-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 45.04 meters.
Pennington also competed in the javelin and finished fourth with a mark of 43.09 meters.
Relays
Union captured first place in the 4x100-meter relay. The team of Anderson, Owens, John and Hadley posted a winning time of 43.12.
