Union men’s outdoor track and field recap of the AAC Championships
Johnson City, Tenn. - The Union Commonwealth University men's outdoor track and field team recently competed at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing eighth overall with a total of 46 points.
Track Events
Valor Pennington led the Bulldogs with a standout performance in the decathlon, earning a second-place finish with 4,793 points.
The relay team of Zabrey Bortz, Jackson Crume, Torrean Thornton, and Conner Partin posted a time of 8:39.78 in the 4x800-meter relay. Preston Frost added to the team's point total with a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 57.23.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Isaiah Spears, Teddy Stills, Kamese Higgins, and Tyler Sturgil secured a fifth-place finish with a time of 43.25. Noah Hale also finished fifth in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line in 38:34.25.
Stills recorded a time of 10.75 in the 100-meter dash and followed it up with a 22.12 in the 200 meters. In the 3000-meter run, Partin ran a 10:42.80, while teammate Bortz finished in 11:14.22.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the meet in the 4x400-meter relay, where Stills, Frost, Spears, and Higgins combined for a time of 3:32.01.
Field Events
Garomme Hanna earned a third-place finish in the javelin throw with an impressive mark of 48.71 meters. In the high jump, Sturgil cleared 1.82 meters, while Pennington posted a mark of 1.76 meters.
Jay Ateeb turned in a strong performance in the triple jump, claiming third place with a leap of 14.30 meters. In the shot put, Andon Mashburn placed sixth, recording a mark of 13.79 meters.
Next for the Bulldogs is the Jim Green Invitational on Friday, May 2.
