Mike Golden appreciates the small close knit feel of Union Commonwealth University’s campus, a place where it’s easy to find your way and build connections that matter. He brings a competitive yet supportive presence to the track and field team, pushing himself while encouraging the people around him.
Outside of his sport, Mike enjoys putting together puzzles and working on model cars. His love for classic cars ties into one of his dream careers becoming a classic car mechanic though he is also drawn to the idea of becoming a special education teacher. Math was his favorite subject in high school and he continues to carry that problem solving mindset with him.
He enjoys sweet tea, bacon flavored sunflower seeds on long road trips, and anything his mother cooks especially her fried chicken and squash casserole. Steve Prefontaine is the athlete he looks up to most.
Mike hopes to be remembered as someone who never gave up on achieving his goals. He also brings meaningful experience from his time working with unified athletes in track and field during high school. Coach Jelks has had the biggest positive impact on him since arriving at Union. When he’s not competing in track and field, basketball is his next best sport.
