Union men’s track and field places fourth in Cumberlands Early Spring Meet
Williamsburg, Ky. - The Union College men's track and field team kicked off its outdoor season in the Cumberlands Early Spring Meet on Friday.
The Bulldogs placed fourth out of eight teams with a total of 21 points. Union collected two top-three finishes.
Payton Ellison took second place in the high jump as he cleared 1.95m to earn Union eight points. Tyler Sturgill placed sixth with a finish of 1.75m to add three points.
Joey Holloway landed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.40m to tally four points. In javelin; Mark Prewitt, Joey Holloway, and Hunter Wethington placed 10th, 11th, and 12th respectively with distances of 37.40m, 30.74m, and 28.66m.
Holloway also placed 17th in the discus throw with a mark of 30.47m. Chris Thomas, Garomme Hanna, and Quindarius Carter finished 13th, 16th, and 18th in the 100m dash with times of 11.27, 11.76, and 11.84 respectively.
Preston Frost secured third place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.00 to add six points. In the 200m dash, Thomas placed ninth with a time of 22.73, while Hanna finished 21st with a time of 24.17.
"We were at about 60% and we performed at a very high level," Union head coach Chris Jelks said. "I am pleased with the start of the season."
