Bulldog Track and Field Heads to Nationals

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The Union Bulldogs are sending four sprinters to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship in Johnson City, Tennessee this weekend.

The Bulldogs send their 4x400 relay team of Armond Smith, James Fowler, Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) and Santraz Andrews (Griffin, Ga.) to Johnson City to go up against the best in the country. The relay team currently holds the 18th fastest time in the country at 3:22.42.

Competing in three other events is senior Armond Smith (Stone Mountain, Ga.). Smith will run in the 60m hurdles, the 60m dash, the 200m and the 4x400 relay.

Smith enters the national meet with the seventh best time in the 60m hurdles (8.16), as well as the 13th best time in the 200m (22.21) and the 19th fastest time in the 60m dash (6.94).

Also competing in individual events for the Bulldogs is sophomore James Fowler (Dallas, Texas) where he will race in the 60m dash, the 200m and the 4x400 relay. Fowler currently holds the 12th fastest time in the 200m (22.21) and is 33rd overall in the 60m dash (7.00).

The gun will sound for Union's first event on Friday afternoon at 1:20 p.m. when Armond Smith toes the line in the 60m hurdles.
