Bulldogs Claim 2 Events at Depauw Invitational

DEPAUW, Ind.- Union College made their presence known Saturday evening at the Depauw Invitational, bringing home two victories. Senior Armond Smith (Stone Mountain, GA) notched a win in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.71 and the Bulldog 4x400m relay team claimed the top spot with a time of 3:26.02.

The Bulldogs also had two top-five finishers in the 55m dash. Armond Smith claimed a 2nd place finish with a time of 6.49 and James Fowler (Dallas, TX) finished with a time of 6.59, good for 5th place. Marekus Smith (Lithonia, GA) ran in the preliminaries of the 55m dash, finishing with a time of 6.70 and Christian White (Dallas, TX) also competed in the preliminaries, clocked a time of 6.95 in the preliminaries.

Senior Scotty Barnes (Ewing, VA) was extremely busy on the evening, competing in a team-high five events. Barnes crossed the line with a time of 6.78 in the preliminaries of the 55m dash, earned a time of 9.43 in the 55m hurdles, tallied a jump of 5.43m (17-0 ) in the long jump, finished 7th in the pole vault with a vault of 3.5m (11-5 ) and recorded a throw of 12.15m (39-10 ) in the shot put.

Union had two dogs in the 1-mile run, Sophomore Colin McEachron (Blenheim, Canada) and Freshman Bradley Fieldhouse (Louisville, KY). McEachron completed the run in 5:02.29 while Fieldhouse stopped the clock at 5:16.70.

The Bulldog's received solid contributions from three freshmen in the Invitational. Freshman Christian White (Dallas, TX) competed in both the long jump and the high jump, recording jumps of 5.95 (19-6 ) and 1.73m (5-8) respectively. Freshman Andrew Johnston (Benton, KY) tried his hand at the pole vault, notching a vault of 3.8m (12-5 ). The shot put saw freshman Brian Delmont (Opa Locka, FL) earn a mark of 10.68m (35-0 ).

Senior Jared Ford (Frankfort, KY) tallied a mark of 12.81m (42-0 ) in the shot put and the 600m run saw Senior Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, GA) record a time of 1:30.45. Kual also notched a time of 2:47.53 in the 1000m run.

Overall, Union placed 8th out of 14 teams on the evening, earning 43 points.

The Bulldogs return to action next Friday at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
