UC NOTCHES 2 TOP-FIVE FINISHES, NAIA NATIONAL QUALIFIER

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Union College may have been up against some major NCAA Division I programs Friday evening at the Hoosier Hills Classic, but the Bulldogs did not back down, notching two top five finishes on the evening and a NAIA National Championship 'A' qualifying mark.
James Fowler (Dallas, TX) placed fifth overall in the 200m dash with a time of 22.21, qualifying for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet, which is scheduled for March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn. The Bulldogs also had senior Armond Smith (Stone Mountain, GA) place 12th and senior Marekus Smith (Lithonia, GA) finish 27th in the 200m dash, notching times of 22.38 and 22.95, respectively.

Union's other top five finish came from the feet of Armond Smith, who finished with a time of 8.26, placing fourth overall in the 60m hurdles. In the 400m dash, Santraz Andrews (Griffin, GA) placed 43rd overall, crossing the tape with a time of 52.44. Freshman Christian White (Dallas, TX) tied for 24th overall in the long jump, tallying a jump of 6.25m (20-6 ).

The 60m dash saw three Bulldogs toe the line, with its best finish coming from Armond Smith notching a time of 6.99, good enough for 10th overall. Fowler placed 13th overall with a time of 7.03 and Marekus Smith finished 23rd, stopping the clock at 7.19. Senior Daniel Kual (Stone Mountain, GA) was the lone competitor for the Bulldogs in the 300m run, crossing the finish line with a time of 9:31.26, good enough for 43rd.

Union returns to action Saturday at the Depauw Invitational in Depauw, Ind.
