Major: Exercise Science

Mateus da Matta is an Exercise Science major who values Union Commonwealth University for its well-structured campus, high-quality teaching, and the serious, competitive environment of the soccer program. His dream job is to become a personal trainer, as he has a deep passion for understanding the human body and helping others improve their health and fitness.

His favorite subject in high school was science, and his soccer icon is the legendary Lionel Messi. When he’s not on the field, Mateus enjoys going to the gym and spending time with his dog. He stays fueled with orange juice, bread with egg on road trips, and his favorite meal—rice with meat and potatoes.

You’ll find Mateus most active on Instagram, and as a teammate, he describes himself as someone who values unity and dedication, always willing to help others and give his best. He hopes to be remembered not only as a champion representing Union, but as someone who positively impacted the people around him. His second best sport is basketball.
