Football team falls on senior day
BARBOURVILE, Ky. - Union football parted ways with 14 seniors Saturday, as the group played its final game at Williamson Stadium.
Unfortunately, a tough opponent was there to spoil the celebration, as Reinhardt, the ninth-ranked team in the country, rushed for 451 yards, earning a 40-0 win over the Bulldogs.
Entering the day as the Appalachian Athletic Conference's leading rusher, Devyn Collins looked the part, rushing for 214 yards and four touchdowns. Collins found paydirt three times in the first half then wrapped his day with a 61-yard score to cap the opening drive of the second half.
Unfortunately, the Eagles had plenty of extra help in his absence, as they rushed for a whopping 224 yards in the third quarter alone, with backups breaking off runs of 41, 38 and 26 while scoring a pair of touchdowns.
The Eagles' top-ranked defense was as good as advertised as well, surrendering just 163 yards and not allowing Union to penetrate deep in their territory until the final drive of the game.
In the loss, two Bulldog players had double-digit tackles. Terran Cox made 16 stops while Tramonte Gardner recorded 13 plus a 10-yard sack.
Union finishes the year 0-10, 0-5 in the AAC.
