Gardner named AAC Defensive Player of the Week

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - For the second time in three weeks, a Union football player has collected a Defensive Player of the Week Award.

Senior linebacker Tramonte Gardner earned that designation from the Appalachian Athletic Conference on Monday, following a sparkling performance in a Saturday loss at Bluefield (Va.).

Against the Rams, Gardner was all over the field, recorded 12 tackles, four of them for loss. He also made a major impact in the passing game, intercepting a Nathan Herstich pass late in the second quarter.

He is the second Bulldog to win AAC defensive honors in the 2022 season. Teammate Terran Cox, won the award in week two, following an excellent showing against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).

Union has its first bye week of the season this weekend and will return to action in a home matchup against Kentucky Christian on Oct. 1.
