Braxton Morris enters his first year as head baseball coach with a strong foundation of success both as a player and coach at the NCAA Division I level.
A native of Albertville, Alabama, Morris graduated from Albertville High School in 2014 before continuing his academic and athletic career at Morehead State University. He earned his degree in Sports Management in 2018 while putting together one of the most accomplished playing careers in program history.
A four-year starting middle infielder for the Eagles, Morris helped lead Morehead State to two conference championships and graduated as the winningest player in program history. He finished his career with a .333 batting average, ranking third all-time in career hits and second all-time in single-season hits. During his standout 2018 season, Morris ranked seventh in NCAA Division I with 25 doubles and ninth nationally with 98 hits.
Morris most recently served as head coach at the University of Tennessee Southern during the 2025-26 season, where he led the program to its highest win total since 2023. His team recorded four wins over Top 25 opponents, set a program record for stolen bases, and finished the regular season ranked No. 16 nationally in stolen bases. Under his leadership, four players earned All-Conference honors.
Prior to his time at Tennessee Southern, Morris served as assistant coach and director of operations at High Point University during the 2024-25 season. He played a key role in a record-setting year, helping the program achieve the most wins in school history while working closely with infielders and hitters and overseeing baseball operations. The Panthers produced one of the top offenses in the nation, ranking No. 1 in hits, runs, and on-base percentage, No. 2 in home runs and doubles, and No. 4 in batting average, while also producing nine All-Conference selections.
Morris also served as director of player development at USC Upstate during the 2023-24 season. The Spartans tied a program record for wins and ranked among the top 30 offenses in NCAA Division I, setting school records in hits, RBIs, doubles, and home runs. The team also matched a program-best with nine All-Conference selections.
Earlier in his career, Morris gained valuable experience at both the University of Florida (2022-23) and the University of Louisiana Lafayette (2020-21) as a defensive and recruiting analyst, working primarily with defensive backs. While at Louisiana, the Ragin’ Cajuns captured back-to-back Sun Belt Conference championships, posted a 23-2 record over two seasons, and finished the 2021 campaign ranked No. 15 nationally following a 13-game winning streak.
Off the field, Morris is engaged to Alexis Blankenship, a medical dosimetrist whom he met during his time at Morehead State. He is the brother of Brock Morris, an assistant basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma. In his free time, Morris enjoys spending time with his fiancée and their dog, Romeo, as well as competing in games and activities.
