UCU Baseball drops game one at Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team (6-27, 3-18 AAC) fell to Montreat (26-15, 10-9 AAC), 5-4, in game one of a three-game conference series.

Game One: Montreat 5, Union Commonwealth 4

  • Marquese Glynn put the Bulldogs on the board early, leading off the top of the first inning with a solo home run to give Union a 1-0 advantage.
  • Montreat responded in the bottom of the second with a solo home run and an RBI double to take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Cavaliers extended their lead in the fourth, capitalizing on a Union error to make it 3-1. Montreat added to its advantage in the fifth with a two-run home run, pushing the score to 5-1.
  • Union Commonwealth began to chip away at the deficit as Isaiah Pintor scored on a wild pitch, cutting the lead to 5-2.
  • In the top of the eighth, Aiden Wilson delivered a two-run home run to score Nathan McCabe and bring the Bulldogs within one at 5-4. However, the late rally fell short as Montreat held on for the win.
