UCU Run-Rules Bluefield in Series Opener

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team (5-24, 2-16 AAC) earned a 13-3 run-rule victory in seven innings over Bluefield (8-22, 0-15 AAC) on Friday afternoon in the opening game of an Appalachian Athletic Conference series.

Game One: Union Commonwealth 13, Bluefield 3 (7 innings)

  • Union Commonwealth struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Aiden Wilson delivered a two-RBI double to score Marquese Glynn and Cristian Bajjalieha, while Isaiah Pintor followed with an RBI single to plate Nathan McCabe, giving the Bulldogs an early 3-0 advantage.

  • Bluefield answered with three runs across the second and third innings to even the score at 3-3.

  • The Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom of the third when McCabe scored on a fielder's choice.

  • Union Commonwealth broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating six runs. McCabe led off with a solo home run, and Pintor added a two-RBI double to score Brysen Vernon and Wilson. Pintor later scored on a fielder's choice, and Glynn capped the inning with an RBI single to bring the score to 9-3.

  • Wilson extended the lead with a solo home run in the sixth, making it 10-3.

  • The Bulldogs secured the run-rule victory in the seventh, scoring three runs. Roberto Gallardo crossed the plate on a walk, Max Charlton added an RBI single to score Glynn, and Pintor delivered the final run with an RBI single to plate Wilson.
