UCU Baseball Falls to No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan in AAC Series

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team (3-10, 0-8 Appalachian Athletic Conference) dropped the first two games of its conference series against No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan (15-4, 5-0 AAC) on Saturday at Jerry Carey Stadium.

Game One: Union Commonwealth 6, Tennessee Wesleyan 18

  • Tennessee Wesleyan took an early lead in the third inning with an RBI single.

  • Union answered in the fourth when Max Charlton delivered an RBI single to score Marquese Glynn, tying the game at 1-1. The Bulldogs moved ahead 2-1 after Isaiah Pintor scored on an error. Roberto Gallardo followed with a bunt single and RBI to plate Charlton, and Joaquin Gutierrez reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Nate Adkins to score, extending the lead to 4-1.

  • The Bulldogs' advantage was short-lived. Tennessee Wesleyan responded in the fifth inning and, through the top of the eighth, scored 17 unanswered runs to take control.

  • Union attempted to rally in the bottom of the eighth. Pintor scored to spark the inning, and Brysen Vernon added an RBI single to bring the score to 18-6. The comeback fell short as the game concluded after eight innings.

Game Two: Union Commonwealth 6, Tennessee Wesleyan 22

  • Tennessee Wesleyan jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

  • Union responded in the bottom half when Isaiah Pintor singled to score Aiden Wilson, trimming the deficit to 4-1. From the second through the third innings, Tennessee Wesleyan added 11 runs to extend its lead to 15-1.

  • Wilson hit a solo home run in the third inning, and Charlton followed with a two-RBI double to score Pintor and Nathan McCabe, cutting the margin to 15-4.

  • Tennessee Wesleyan added six more runs between the fourth and sixth innings to push the score to 21-4.

  • Gallardo recorded an RBI double in the sixth to score Charlton, making it 21-5. The Bulldogs added one more run in the seventh on an RBI single by Charlton that scored Gutierrez, but Tennessee Wesleyan secured the 22-6 victory.
