Union Baseball Drops Series Opener at Pikeville

Pikeville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team (3-4, 0-4 AAC) dropped the first game of its three-game conference series against Pikeville(6-4, 2-2 AAC) on Friday.

Union Commonwealth 4, Pikeville 11

  • Pikeville took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run.

  • UPike extended its advantage in the fourth, stringing together two doubles and two singles to push the lead to 7-0.

  • The Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the fifth when Roberto Gallardo delivered an RBI triple to score Brysen Vernon. Gallardo later came home on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 7-2.

  • Pikeville responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs of its own to extend the lead to 11-2.

  • Later in the contest, Aiden Wilson lifted a sacrifice fly to score Vernon, making it 11-3.

  • The game remained scoreless until the top of the ninth when Vernon hit a solo home run, but Union was unable to mount a comeback as Pikeville secured the 11-4 victory.
