UCU falls in high-scoring 13-12 finale at Bryan

Dayton, Tenn. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team (3-3) closed its three-game conference series at Bryan (3-7) in Dayton, Tennessee. The Bulldogs dropped the finale 13-12.

Game 1: Union Commonwealth 12, Bryan 13

  • Union jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Noah Young delivered a two-run single to score Aiden Wilson and Isaiah Pintor. Young advanced to second and Sheppard Graf moved to third on a Bryan error.

  • Max Charlton continued the rally with an RBI double, scoring Graf and moving Young to third. Brysen Vernon followed with an RBI single to plate Young, and Caden Cooper added an RBI single to score Charlton. Cooper later crossed the plate on a Bryan error to cap a six-run first inning for the Bulldogs.

  • Bryan answered over the next three innings with an RBI single, a grand slam and a solo home run to tie the game 6-6.

  • Union regained the lead in the fourth inning when Graf delivered an RBI single to score Wilson. Bryan tied the game again in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch.

  • Joaquin Gutierrez gave the Bulldogs the lead once more with an RBI single to score Vernon.

  • The Lions moved ahead in the seventh inning, scoring on two wild pitches and two walks to take an 11-8 advantage.

  • In the eighth inning, Young recorded two RBIs, scoring Wilson and Gutierrez to cut the deficit to 11-10.

  • Union took a 12-11 lead in the ninth inning when Gutierrez hit a two-run home run to score Roberto Gallardo. Bryan answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run walk-off home run to secure the 13-12 victory.
