Union baseball falls short in game one at Pikeville

Pikeville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team opened its three-game conference series against Pikeville with a narrow 6-5 loss in game one.

The Bulldogs tallied nine hits in the contest, including two for extra bases. Max Charlton led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Gunnar Kale and Brysen Vernon each finished 2-for-4.

Jayden Gonzalez, Brendan Hillis, and Raebert De Los Santos each added a hit. De Los Santos crossed the plate twice, while Hillis, Kale, and Vernon each scored once. De Los Santos also drove in a pair of runs, and Charlton, Gonzalez, and Vernon each recorded an RBI.

De Los Santos highlighted the offensive effort with a home run, and Vernon added a double to the stat sheet.

On the mound, Ethan Warren pitched the full game for the Bulldogs. He struck out six batters and did not allow a single walk in the outing.

The Bulldogs are now 16-27 (8-16 AAC) this season, while Pikeville is 25-19 (16-12 AAC). UCU closes out the series with Pikeville with the final two games set for Saturday, April 19, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
