Union baseball collects 18 hits to defeat Alice Lloyd in seven innings

Barbourville, Ky. - ​​The Union Commonwealth University baseball team defeated Alice Lloyd on Tuesday, where they secured a 17-1 victory in seven innings. 

Jayden Gonzalez and Aaron Barrera both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Cooper Tomkinson finished 3-for-5, while Logan Romasanta and Brendan Hillis each went 2-for-3. Hunter Pinkston added a 2-for-4 performance, and Trey Hollon, Ryan Brown, and Max Charlton each recorded a hit. 

Romasanta led the team with three runs scored, while Pinkston, Gonzalez, Barrera, and Hillis each crossed the plate twice. Hollon, Brysen Vernon, Tomkinson, Brown, Charlton, and Sean Cherry also tallied a run. 

Tomkinson delivered a game-high five RBIs, followed by Gonzalez with three and Hillis with two. Pinkston, Barrera, Romasanta, Brown, and Charlton each drove in a run. 

Gonzalez, Barrera, and Tomkinson all hit home runs. Charlton added a triple, while Pinkston, Romasanta, and Hillis each notched a double. Pinkston also swiped a base. 

On the mound, Christian McCollough earned the win and had the start for the Bulldogs. Eli Sizemore, Tucker Allen, Braylon Greene, and Tanner Hayes all contributed in relief, combining to allow just two hits and one run. McCollough struck out three batters in his outing.

The Bulldogs are now 8-10 this season, while Alice Lloyd is 7-5. Up next for Union is a home conference matchup against Bryan on Friday, March 7, at 1:00 p.m.
