Union splits Saturday’s doubleheader against Shawnee State

Winchester, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team played against Shawnee State on Saturday in a doubleheader.

Saturday's matchups are two matchups in a four-game series. The games were played at George Rogers Clark High School, but were originially scheduled to be played at UCU.

The Bulldogs fell short in the opening matchup, but won the second game of the day. Each contest was a seven-inning game.

 

Game One:

The Bulldogs fell short 12-5 in seven innings. UCU scored four runs in the third inning. Logan Romasanta, Isaiah Pintor, Brysen Vernon, Ryan Brown, and Max Charlton each registered one hit. Brown led UCU in RBIs with two.

Ethan Warren was UCU's starting pitcher. Warren pitched 3.0 innings, while allowing five earned runs and registering three strikeouts. Grayson Makranyi, Braylon Greene, and Tanner Hayes also pitched for Union.

 

Game Two:

UCU won 9-2 in seven innings. Romasanta and Ernesto Moreno each registered two hits, which was as many as any player in the matchup. Romasanta led all players with three RBIs, while Brown tallied two. Vernon and Pintor each recorded a game-leading two runs scored.

Dalton Kottmer was the winning pitcher. Kottmer allowed zero earned runs and just two hits in 4.0 innings pitched, while tallying four strikeouts. Jackson Clark allowed two earned runs and just two hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Clark registered three strikeouts.

 

The Bulldogs are now 1-1 this season, while Shawnee State is 1-1. Up next for Union is the remainder of the series against Shawnee State, which will resume with a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 2, at noon.
