Bulldogs draw Bears in AAC baseball tournament opener

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Having seemingly gotten hot at the perfect time, the Union baseball team looks to keep its positive momentum heading into the postseason.

After clinching the No. 5 seed Saturday, the Bulldogs will open the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament against fourth-seeded Truett McConnell at 9 a.m Wednesday.

All games will be played in Kingsport, Tenn. at Hunter Wright Stadium.

The Bears come in having finished the year 17-10 in AAC play. They had a two-game advantage over the 15-12 Bulldogs in the regular season, the difference coming on March 30, when TMU swept a doubleheader in Barbourville.

The losses to Truett were part of a rough stretch where the Bulldogs lost nine of 11 conference games, dropping them as low as ninth in the standings. They've since rebounded, winning seven of their last eight AAC contests, with all their wins coming against teams that were ahead of them in the standings going in.
