Reinhardt rallies for baseball sweep of Union
WALESKA, Ga. - After finally getting the breakthrough inning it was waiting for, the Union baseball team unfortunately gave the momentum right back, as Reinhardt scored six consecutive runs to close out a three-game conference sweep of the Bulldogs in a 9-6 final Friday.
The Bulldogs fall to 18-15-1, 8-11 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
David Mitchell started off a four-run fourth inning with a solo home run that tied the game 3-3. The next two batters were retired, but an Eagle error opened the door for a three-run, two-out surge, highlighted by an Angel Mendoza RBI double and a Hazel Martinez RBI single.
But after the Eagles cut the deficit to 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth, they took the lead for good in the fifth. After the first two batters reached, Zach Rabe brought them around with a go-ahead three-run home run. Two batters, Alex Coulter hit a solo homer to complete the day's scoring.
Mitchell, Mendoza, Martinez and Luke Powell all had two hits, with Mendoza and Colton Stegman each scoring two runs for Union, which has dropped its last six games.
The Bulldogs will try to get back on track when they visit Georgetown at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
