Reinhardt takes baseball doubleheader from Union

WALESKA, Ga. - Tucker Zdunich led a home run onslaught and Reinhardt prevented Union from getting clutch hits, sweeping a baseball doubleheader by finals of 10-3 and 4-3 Thursday.

The Bulldogs fall to 18-14-1 overall and 8-10 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

GAME ONE

Zdunich set the tone immediately for the Eagles, leading off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. It was the first of four homers Reinhardt hit in the opener, with Zdunich going deep again on a three-run blast in the second inning.

Colton Stegman and Logan Romasanta both had two hits, with Stegman bringing home the Bulldogs' first run with a solo home run in the third inning. Nick Martinez also homered in the fifth, with David Mitchell driving in a run on an eighth-inning single.

GAME TWO

After Luke Powell delivered a two-run single in the first inning, Martinez hit his second homer of the day, a solo shot, to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1.

But a third home run by Zdunich in the fifth gave way to a leadoff home run by Dylan Lewis in the sixth that tied the game at 3-3. Ensuing hitter Jacob Profit then singled and stole second before consecutive groundouts brought him home for the go-ahead run.

The Bulldogs made things interesting in the final inning, as a walk by Stegman and a double by Angel Mendoza put runners at second and third with just one out. But both runners would be stranded, leading to a fifth-consecutive Union loss.

The teams will attempt to finish the series before an incoming rainstorm on Friday, as a game originally slated to begin at noon will now start at 10 a.m.
