Ramos called up to Double-A Arkansas Travelers

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Former Union College baseball standout Kevin Ramos recently moved up in the professional ranks as he is now a member of the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League.

The Travelers are the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, and this is the highest any former Union player has ever advanced to in professional baseball.

"We are very happy for Kevin," said Union head coach Bart Osborne. "He has worked hard for this, and I know that he will make the most of this opportunity. The Bulldog baseball family is very proud of all that Kevin has accomplished, and we look forward to seeing more great things from him."

Ramos, a native of Panama City, Panama, made his debut with the Travelers on May 20 against the Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals, going 1-for-5.

Last year, Ramos spent the entire season playing for the Rookie-level Angels of the Arizona Summer League, posting a .319 average with eight doubles, seven triples a home run and 34 RBIs in 40 games played.

Early this year, Ramos made Union history in becoming the first Bulldog to ever participate in the World Baseball Classic as he represented Panama.

Ramos played only one season at Union, but it was an impressive campaign. He set a school record for hits in a season with 98 as he batted .407 with eight home runs and 71 RBIs in helping the Bulldogs to a 46-17 overall record and the 2007 NAIA Region XII Championship.

Following the 2007 season, he signed as a free agent with the Angels.
