BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College's Collin Wesco was named a 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete for men's track & field, becoming only the third person in program history to receive this honor.

The announcement was made during the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet in Gulf Shores, Ala., on May 25-27.

Wesco, a junior, competed in the distance running events. He posted a ninth-place finish in the 3000 meter run at the Lindsey Wilson Invitational on March 25 with a time of 9:36.44. At the Centre Twilight Meet on April 1, Wesco posted a time of 17:29.88 in the 5,000 meter run.

The Huntington, Ind., native joins Brandon Kibert (2007 and 2008) and Bradley Fieldhouse (2012) as the only persons to receive this award in program history. Wesco also received this honor in the fall for men's cross country.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
