BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Union College head men's lacrosse coach Ed Craver announced the addition of Derian Tolpa for the 2018 roster.
Tolpa played defense for John Marshall High School in Moundsville, W.Va.
"Derian brings many talents and skills to the lacrosse field," Craver said. "His leadership and ability to play many positions got his high school team into the playoffs this year. He will be an integral part to our success."
While at Union, Tolpa will major in nursing.
The lacrosse program is new at Union and will take the field for the first time as a varsity program in the spring of 2018. Union will compete in the NAIA and in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Lacrosse is recognized as an Invitational Sport by the NAIA, which means 25 or more institutions have declared intent to participate in postseason competition and the NAIA's National Administrative Council has approved the sport's request for Invitational Sport status. This is the first year lacrosse has been identified as an Invitational Sport in the NAIA. Once the sport has over 40 or more institutions, lacrosse can apply to become a Championship Sport.
