KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Another RBI single from Francisco Ogando (JR/Bronx, N.Y.) in the bottom of the eighth captured the win as the Union College baseball team came from behind to knock off Reinhardt (Ga.) 8-4 at the 2017 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament on Friday at Hunter Wright Stadium.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 29-23 on the year and moved onto the AAC Tournament semifinal game. The game will be played Saturday at 12 p.m. With the loss, Reinhardt ended its season with a 37-21 mark.

The Bulldogs got on the board first with a double from Bruce Valentin (SR/Bronx, N.Y.) and a RBI single from Ogando. However, things turned sour for the Bulldogs as Reinhardt jumped out to a 2-1 after the second inning, followed by two-run homerun from Kaleb Swayze to make it a 4-1 lead after the top of the third inning.

But Union tied things up in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to make it a 4-4 after three innings. The following innings remained scoreless until the eighth when Union took the momentum.

Ronnie Healy (SR/Jupiter, Fla.) got things started with a single, and pinch-runner Tyler Graham (FR/Hopkinsville, Ky.) came in and scored off an RBI single from Ogando. Evan Figert (FR/Franklin, Ky.) then ran for Ogando and scored off an Eagles error. Later, Daniel Neal (SO/London, Ky.) scored off a sacrifice bunt from Zane Britton (SO/Greeneville, Tenn.), followed by another error from Reinhardt scoring J.C. Pena (SR/Perth Amboy, N.J.).

After three errors from the Eagles defense in the bottom of the eighth, the damage was done, keeping Union alive to face tomorrow.

Overall, Ogando and Michael Castillo (SR/New York, N.Y.) were Union's only players to have a multi-hit game, as Castillo went 2-for-4, and Ogando had a perfect game going 2-for-2, with two RBIs and one run scored.

On the mound, reliever Austin Dingee (JR/Bay City, Mich.) picked up the win, tossing 6 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four.
