ATHENS, Tenn. – The Union College softball team came up short on the road, dropping an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader to host Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday, falling 2-0 and 6-2.
With the losses, Union is now 23-26 overall and 11-7 in AAC play. Tennessee Wesleyan improves to 19-13 overall and 11-7 in conference play.
Game One – Tennessee Wesleyan 2, Union 0
Offensive was at a premium in the opener as the teams combined for 11 hits, but Tennessee Wesleyan was able to get a pair of runs across to nab the win.
The hosts scored their first run in the third and added another in the fifth for the 2-0 advantage.
Tennessee Wesleyan outhit Union 6-5. Chandler Overton (SR/Nashville, Tenn.) led Union at the plate in going 2-for-3.
Game Two – Tennessee Wesleyan 6, Union 2
Union jumped out to an early lead, but Tennessee Wesleyan rallied for the four-run victory.
In the first, Tiffanie Moore (SR/Maryville, Tenn.) and Overton each scored to give Union a 2-0 lead. However, Tennessee Wesleyan responded with three in the second and two more in the third for a 5-2 advantage.
Tennessee Wesleyan tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to seal the 6-2 outcome.
Union was limited to three hits, while Tennessee Wesleyan lined six.
Union plays host to Bluefield (Va.) on Saturday in its final AAC doubleheader of the regular season. The Bulldogs will also honor their seniors as this is the final home date of the campaign. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
