DAYTON, Tenn. – The Union College baseball team fell 16-5 in the first game of the weekend series against No. 20 and Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe Bryan (Tenn.).

With the loss, Union is now 22-15 overall while 9-7 in the AAC. Bryan moves to 26-12 overall and 10-6 in the AAC on the season.

It was Union who leaped out to the early 2-0 lead in the first. After leadoff hitter Joe Gaines (SO/London, Ky.) singled, Ronnie Healy (SR/Jupiter, Fla.) belted a two-run home run for the early advantage. The four-bagger is his 10th of the season.

Union remained in the lead until the third, allowing only three hits and one run in two innings. Bryan jumped ahead in the third scoring four and never looked back, scoring a multitude of runs in each of the following innings.

In the fifth, Daniel Neal (SO/London, Ky.) hit his third homerun on the year scoring two, closing the gap 9-4 going at the top of the fifth. Bryan answered back with three runs of their own off of two homeruns, increasing their advantage to 12-4.

Union would score an addition run in the sixth to make it 12-5, but Bryan closed the game early after Jacob Justice hit a grand slam to make it 16-5.

Overall, Healy had a strong day at the plate as he ended the day 2-for-3 driving in two runs along. Neal also drove in two runs going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Wade Weinburger had a productive day for Bryan with two homeruns and four RBIs.

Union continues action with Bryan tomorrow with a double header to complete the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
